Bronx, New York - New Horizon Investment Club is happy to announce that President Jose Francisco Avila visited Honduras recently, where he met with Lina Hortensia Martinez, president of Wabagari Distribution and winner of the Honduran Presidential Award as Rookie Exporter of the Year presented by Honduras’ President Manuel Zelaya Rosales. The award recognizes the commitment, entrepreneurial efforts of the exporting companies of nontraditional products which contribute in a significant way to the economic growth of Honduras through successful exports to the international markets. Wabagari has been exporting cassava to the United for 18 months.  Español

La empresaria garífuna, conocida bajo la marca O’ Big Mama, fue galardonada por la Secretaría de Industria y Comercio con el Premio Presidencial al Exportador en categoría de Novato, con un reconocimiento a su esfuerzo y labor por dar a conocer la vasta cultura garífuna que orgullosamente la distingue un reconocimiento que para ella significa “un compromiso para seguir adelante por la comunidad garífuna y por el desarrollo del país”.

- New Horizon Investment Club is happy to celebrate the first anniversary of the establishment of a formal distribution channel for importation of the O’Big Mama cassava. To celebrate this milestone, as part of the Garifuna Heritage Month in New York, New Horizon has scheduled a Garifuna Food Expo on Sunday, March 15^th from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at the Claremont Neighborhood Center, Inc.  489 East 169^th Street (Between 3^rd and Washington Avenue), where visitors will be able to taste traditional Garifuna foods, like cassava, darasa, bounu, hiyu and many more, while sharing with family and friends. As a Business major, my community activism has always been to seek the financial empowerment of the Garifuna community and Afro Latinos in general.  I’ve always believed that the best way to make a dignified living is by promoting economic development. Through my research, I found out that Booker T. Washington's one of  the nation's most influential black leader at the turn of the 20th century, argued that economic empowerment, not social and political advancement, should be the major goal of blacks. El cazabe hondureño se está abriendo espacio en el mercado de Nueva York gracias al esfuerzo de la pequeña empresa Wuapagari Distribution, conformada por 140 mujeres garífunas.

Desde la mesa de la típica cabaña de la etnia garífuna en la costa atlántica de Honduras, el cazabe ya está siendo disfrutado por miles de personas en diferentes partes del mundo, gracias a un proyecto de exportación de los llamados productos nostálgicos que, felizmente para sus propulsores, se ha salido de control.Desde la mesa de la típica cabaña de la etnia garífuna en la costa atlántica de Honduras, el cazabe ya está siendo disfrutado por miles de personas en diferentes partes del mundo, gracias a un proyecto de exportación de los llamados productos nostálgicos que, felizmente para sus propulsores, se ha salido de control.

La Unión, El Porvenir. La Asociación Hondureña de Productoras de Casabe ha dado un paso en firme, al inaugurarse el edificio en donde se procesará el casabe que se comercializa en esta región.

Este logro representa una mejor alternativa en la búsqueda de la calidad, ya que ahora el grupo de mujeres procesadoras tendrá un lugar para elaborar los productos derivados de la yuca.
